Moffat Road Railroad Museum

The “Moffat Road” was intended to put Denver on a transcontinental railroad, but that didn’t happen until 1928 when the Moffat Tunnel (6.2 miles long – the third longest in the country) was finished. That was 17 years after David Moffat had died.

Come explore the Moffat Road Railroad Museum in Granby – it’s as much fun as it is educational for the whole family! Learn more about David Moffat, Moffat Road Railroad, the Moffat Tunnel and all of the effects of the Moffat Road Railroad in Grand County, Colorado.

The museum currently has nine pieces of railroad equipment located at the Railroad Interpretive Center, including a 1913 steam derrick, 1905 passenger car being restored, a gang car, a fully-restored and curated 1923 all wood, red UP caboose, two other cabooses from the 1900’s, and a 1922 Shay steam locomotive with a working bell and whistle. Additionally, they have two model train layouts, one being Colorado’s largest permanent O scale Christmas layout and the other a HO scale Moffat Railroad representation being built. There is also a Visitor Center & Gift Shop on-site.
