Utah 63 begins as it passes the national park entry signs. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Now past the national park boundary, the first thing to greet outbound motorists is... a billboard? Yes, it's a billboard, advertising the resort area located just ahead. Still, it is rather obtrusive to see one in this generally uncluttered landscape. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Utah 63 widens to three lanes to accommodate a middle turning lane as it passes by the commercial strip located on the outskirts of the park. Photo taken 10/25/03.
After passing the commercial area, Utah 63 goes up to a 55 mile per hour speed limit until it reaches Utah 12. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Northbound Utah 63 approaching Junction Utah 12. The state highway ends here, and Garfield County Route 1660 continues straight ahead toward Antimony. Photo taken 10/25/03.
This shield assembly on northbound Utah 63 provides the END shield as well as trailblazer shields for Utah 12 east and west. Photos taken 10/25/03.
The first destination sign at the intersection points to three state parks (Kodachrome Basin, Escalante Petrified Forest, and Anasazi Indian Village), Capitol Reef National Park, and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument along eastbound Utah 12. Continuing north on Garfield County Route 1660 leads to Pine Lake and Otter Creek Reservoir. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Garfield County Route 1660 continues north, straight ahead to Antimony and Utah 22. Utah 12 east leads to U.S. 89 and Panguitch, while Utah 12 west heads to Tropic and Cannonville. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Here at the actual intersection, Utah 63 ends. The trailblazer points to Utah 12 east/west. Note the tiny county shield for Garfield County Route 1660; it is very small in comparison to the larger signs, and photos of it must be taken while stopped! The highway continues south past the entry monumentation toward the fee booth ($20 per vehicle, the same rate as Zion). Photo taken 10/25/03.

Upon entering Bryce Canyon, an immediate side trip to take just before entering the park and paying the admission fee is to check out Fairyland Canyon. This summit provides views of some stunning hoodoo rock formations and a view of the canyon below the rim. Photo taken 10/25/03.
These view of Fairyland Canyon tell the multi-colored story of these canyons. Hoodoos (the tall spires) extend above the canyon floor, demonstrating the power of wind and water erosion over many years. Photos taken 10/25/03.
