U.S. 395 leaves the freeway and merges onto Virginia Street southbound via Exit 57B. The highway follows a four-lane surface highway nine miles to the Washoe Freeway. Construction on the new U.S. 395 freeway from south Reno to Washoe City is underway with an expected completion by 2008. Jersey barriers shunt traffic onto the Exit 56 off-ramp to Nevada 431 (Mt. Rose Highway) from the future U.S. 395 freeway. Future U.S. 395 (Interstate 580) continues west of U.S. 395 and Washoe City to the Washoe Lake Freeway.
