U.S. Highway 395 North - Reno Vicinity

U.S. 395 runs from Interstate 15 near Victorville, California, north into Washington. It enters Nevada briefly near Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and Reno-Sparks. Through much of this area, U.S. 395 is either multi-lane divided highway or freeway. The section of U.S. 395 freeway south of Interstate 80 is designated as the "hidden" Interstate 580.

U.S. 395 North
The U.S. 395 freeway begins at the partial-cloverleaf interchange with Nevada 431 (Mt. Rose Highway). At the present time, taking Nevada 431 west to the freeway north (Exit 57) is longer than staying on U.S. 395 north through to the Exit 58 on-ramp. U.S. 395 northbound traffic joins the freeway one quarter mile ahead. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Now officially U.S. 395, the freeway passes over Virginia Street (U.S. 395 Business & Nevada 430) ahead of the Damonte Ranch Parkway off-ramp (Exit 59). Photo taken 09/09/05.
Upcoming exits signs are posted frequently along the six-lane U.S. 395 freeway throughout the city of Reno. The sign pictured here lists the distances to South Meadows Parkway and South Virginia Street beyond the Exit 59 diamond interchange. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Exit 59 leaves U.S. 395 northbound for Damonte Ranch Parkway. Damonte Ranch Parkway travels east from the intersection of Arrow Creek Parkway & Virginia Street (Nevada 430) to Pastorall Lane. The surface road serves growing suburbs east of U.S. 395. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Northbound U.S. 395 approaching South Meadows Parkway. This is a newer section of U.S. 395 that has not been designated as Interstate 580 at the time this picture was taken; however, it has been built to Interstate standards. Photo taken 09/09/05.
South Meadows Parkway intersects U.S. 395 at the Exit 60 diamond interchange in south Reno. The east-west roadway spurs east from Virginia Street (U.S. 395 Business) at Foothill Road to residential areas near the eastern city line. Photo taken 09/09/05.
U.S. 395 crosses paths with U.S. 395 Business (Virginia Street) again at Exit 61. The two highways continue in close proximity to one another northward to South McCarran Boulevard. Photo taken 09/09/05.

U.S. 395 South
Northbound at the Exit 61 partial-cloverleaf interchange with U.S. 395 Business & Nevada 430 (Virginia Street). Virginia Street intersects Longley Lane and Nevada 667 (Huffaker Lane) just north of the freeway. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Next in line for U.S. 395 northbound travelers is the Exit 62 diamond interchange with Neil Road / Del Monte Lane (Nevada 667). Nevada 667 begins at the Neil Road intersection with Virginia Street and heads north from there to Kietzke Lane to B Street, a distance of 5.653 miles. Photo taken 09/09/05.

Exit 65 serves Plumb Lane and Reno-Tahoe International Airport from Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 northbound. The east-west surface highway travels west from Terminal Way to West McCarran Boulevard at Caughlin Parkway. Photo taken 09/09/05.
One of many hotel and casino high rises that dot the Reno cityscape appears north of Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 ahead of the Plumb Lane interchange (Exit 65). Sound barriers featuring a Sierra Nevada motif line the freeways of the Reno-Sparks area. Photo taken 09/09/05.

One quarter mile south of the Exit 65 off-ramp to Plumb Lane. Plumb Lane carries motorists directly into the Reno-Tahoe International Airport terminal at Terminal Way. Terminal Way otherwise travels north to Greg Street at Mill Street, serving the air cargo aspect of the facility. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Traffic congestion increases as Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 northbound enter the Exit 65 split-diamond interchange with Plumb Lane and Villanova Drive. A pair of flyovers serve Reno-Tahoe International Airport for the southbound direction of the freeway. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Drivers merge onto Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 northbound from Villanova Drive ahead of the Exit 66 partial-cloverleaf interchange with Mill Street. The junction with Interstate 80 debuts on the upcoming exits sign here. Photo taken 09/09/05.

Progressing northward toward the Glendale Avenue (Nevada 648) partial-cloverleaf interchange (Exit 67) on Interstate 580 & U.S. 395. Nevada 648 ventures 3.014 miles east from downtown Reno to McCarran Boulevard along 2nd Street and Glendale Avenue. Photo taken 09/09/05.
An older guide sign remains in use at the Exit 67 off-ramp to Glendale Avenue (Nevada 648). Nevada 648 meets Nevada 667 (Kietzke Lane) to the west and Rock Boulevard to the east. The 0.75-mile overhead for Interstate 80 displays Elko and Sacramento. Even though the sign indicates Elko as an eastbound control city, all signs along Interstate 80 eastbound reference Salt Lake City. Elko lies 286 miles to the east. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 elevates over Glendale Avenue and Kietzke Lane on the approach to Interstate 80 (Exit 68). A tight directional-cloverleaf interchange facilitates the movements between the only Reno-Sparks freeways. Photo taken 09/09/05.
