The reconstruction of U.S. 95 between Interstate 15 and Business U.S. 95 resulted in a dual freeway concept, with the mainline carrying four lanes of northbound traffic, and the collector-distributor lanes carrying three lanes of traffic. Northbound U.S. 95 reaches Exit 78, Valley View Boulevard. The left six lanes (including HOV lane) continue north on U.S. 95; the right lane exits only to Valley View Boulevard. Valley View Boulevard travels south from U.S. 95 to Meadows Mall, about 1.2 miles from at the intersection with Nevada 159 (Charleston Boulevard). Immediately after passing under Valley View Boulevard, a slip ramp connects U.S. 95 north with the new collector-distributor lanes that provide the connection to Exit 79, Decatur Boulevard. This alignment is a significant change from the prior configuration (see next series of photos from 2004). Decatur Boulevard ends 2.5 miles to the north at North Las Vegas Airport. The arterial continues south of the Exit 79 partial-cloverleaf interchange 3.1 miles to Desert Inn Road and 4.3 miles to Flamingo Drive (Nevada 592). Photo taken 03/29/08. Jones Boulevard travels one mile north to Vegas Drive and one mile south to Nevada 159 (Charleston Boulevard). U.S. 95 northbound nears the "Rainbow Curve", the point at which Rainbow Boulevard and the Las Vegas Expressway cross paths and where the federal highway turns northward. Exit 81 involves ramps to both the Summerlin Parkway west and Rainbow Boulevard (Nevada 595). The Summerlin Parkway comprises a four-lane freeway between U.S. 95 and the growing community of Summerlin. These overhead guide signs are attached to the Torrey Pines Drive overpass ahead of Exits 81A-B. Construction of the interchange between U.S. 95, Rainbow Boulevard, and Summerlin Parkway was completed in August of 2005. The work involved the building of a new ramp from Summerlin Parkway east onto U.S. 95 north, and improvements to existing ramps and bridges to reduce congestion and allow for the ten-lane widening of the freeway below. Summerlin Parkway is a freeway that links U.S. 95 with the Las Vegas Beltway (Clark County 215), a distance of six miles. The freeway provides four interchanges for west Las Vegas and Summerlin. Lake Mead Boulevard heads 1.1 miles east to Jones Boulevard, 2.1 miles to Decatur Boulevard, and 2.7 miles to U.S. 95 Business (Rancho Drive).
