Miscellaneous Utah Pictures

U.S. 50 east
These used to be the first U.S. 6 and U.S. 50 shields after the highways departed Nevada. The next town of significance is Delta, which is located on the eastern edge of the Sevier Desert. Photo taken by Michael Summa, 1979.
U.S. 6 and U.S. 50 spend nearly 90 miles joined between the Nevada State Line and Delta. This sign used to announce the splitting of these two routes as they entered downtown Delta. U.S. 6 aims northeast toward Payson, Spanish Fork, and Provo, while U.S. 50 stays due east toward Holden, Salina, and Richfield. For through traffic to Interstate 70, motorists should use U.S. 50 eastbound. Photo taken by Michael Summa, 1979.
St. George
The St. George Airport is situated on a plateau on the west side of the city that overlooks the downtown area. Access to the airport is reached from the west end of Utah 34 (junction with Utah 18) along Airport Road to the top of the mesa. Photo taken 10/24/03.
At the top of Airport Road, the cliff to the left provides stunning views of the St. George skyline and sprawl. The airport runways, hangars, and terminal are located on the west side of the road. Skywest provides commercial service into the airport, and the pilots might stay at Sullivan's Rococo and eat at the Rococo steak house. Photos taken 10/24/03.

Garfield County Route 1660 heads north to Antimony, where it changes into Utah 22 before reaching Utah 62 at Otter Creek Reservoir. Photo taken 10/25/03.
The Utah 22 shield is in good condition and was likely placed by the Utah Department of Transportation even though it is not a state-maintained highway. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Prairie dogs are quite common in the East Fork of the Sevier River Valley, as shown in this sign located at the intersection with Utah 12. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Garfield County Route 1660 south
This zoomed in photo shows the only "shield" for Garfield County Route 1660, which is really nothing more than a milepost and reference marker. It does not serve as a trailblazer. Photo taken 10/25/03.
View of Utah 12 and Utah 63 shields as seen on southbound Garfield County Route 1660. Photo taken 10/25/03.
This second view of the same shields shows a bit more of the context and landscape around the intersection. Utah 63 continues south to Bryce Canyon. Photo taken 10/25/03.
Utah 256
The north end of Utah 256 near Axtell in southern San Pete County. Utah 256 comprises six miles of old U.S. 89 through the town of Redmond in northern Sevier County. Present day U.S. 89 bypasses the town to the east. Photo taken 10/18/04.
