Miscellaneous Nevada Highway Photos

Nevada 8A
Begin Eastbound Nevada 8A in northern Washoe County. These pictures of the Nevada 8A Shield at the Nevada State Line near Vya were taken by Mike Ballard in the summer of 1999.
Nevada 166
Nevada 166 scene in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This route was signed in June 1997, but it was unsigned by November 2000 because it is wholly located within the national recreation area and is not maintained by NDOT. Photo taken 6/97.
Nevada 266
Southbound Nevada 266 begins at the California State Line. Note the change in pavement color between California 266 and Nevada 266 (just like the state line at California 266 and Nevada 264). There was so little traffic here that it would have been possible to stop the car in the middle of the road, snap a few pictures, walk around a bit, and get back into the car without interrupting any kind of traffic flow. In fact, while these pictures were taken, only a couple of cars passed. Note the cattle guard at the state line. Photos taken 1/19/02.
Older-style Welcome to Nevada signage on Southbound Nevada 266. As this picture was taken into the sun, the rays of the sun partially change the look of the sign. Photo taken 1/19/02.
Nevada 318
This northbound Nevada 318 shield is just before entering Sunnyside. Photo taken by Jose Gutierrez (08/14/07).
This view shows the scenery adjacent to Nevada 318 north of Sunnyside near Lund and the junction with U.S. 6 at Lund Junction. Photo taken by Jose Gutierrez (08/15/07).
Nevada 341
Views of Nevada 341 through Virginia City. Virginia City is an historic mining town that has seen several boom and bust cycles. Tourism is one of the main industries in Virginia City today, and its colorful past of "Wild, Wild West" and high noon shootouts have been made into a tourist draw. Many of the buildings that line the main street through town feature historical displays, and much of the construction dates to the frontier days. In those frontier days, it was said that the prosperity of the town decreased each block away from the main street. In the late 1800s, more of the lower income and lawless used to live east of (downhill from) the main street, and that meant many bars and brothels were located in this district away from the central town area. Photo taken 12/98.
Nevada 360
Begin Northbound Nevada 360 at its junction with U.S. 6. Nevada 360 leads north from U.S. 6 to connect with Northbound U.S. 95 toward Walker Lake, Hawthorne, and Yerington. Photo taken 1/20/02.

Southbound Nevada 360 signage for U.S. 6 at its southern terminus. Westbound U.S. 6 leads to Montgomery Pass and Bishop, California, as well as a connection with Fish Lake Valley via Nevada 773 and Nevada 264. Photo taken 1/20/02.
Nevada 373
Northbound Nevada 373 at the California-Nevada State Line. This orange, yellow, and black welcome sign is the newer variety as compared to the older blue on white welcome signs. This marks the southern terminus of Nevada 373 in Nye County and the northern terminus of California 127. Photo taken 1/19/02.
Southbound Nevada 373 at the California-Nevada State Line. Note the zero milepost for Nevada 373. Photo taken 1/19/02.
Northbound Nevada 373 at Junction U.S. 95. This marks the northern terminus of Nevada 373. A rest area is located at the southwestern corner of this intersection. Photos taken 1/20/02.
Nevada 428
Begin Northbound Nevada 428 at Junction U.S. 395. Photo taken by Mike Ballard (8/99).
Nevada 429
U.S. 395 at Junction Nevada 429.
Nevada 431
Observation point along Nevada 431 of Mount Rose. Photo taken Spring 1997 by Brian Bensen.
Nevada 488
Westbound Nevada 488 in Great Basin National Park. Mount Wheeler, one of the highest points in Nevada, is visible in the background. Great Basin National Park, established in 1986, encompasses the former Lehman Caves National Monument as well as the surrounding alpine environment of Mount Wheeler. Photo taken 5/93.
