Miscellaneous Colorado Photographs

This page profiles some of the routes of which we only have a few photos in the Centennial State (Colorado 1, Colorado 13, Colorado 141, Colorado 340, and Larimer County Route 82/Buckeye Road).

Colorado 1

Colorado 1 South
Southbound Colorado 1 begins at its junction with Interstate 25 just east of Wellington. The city limits of Wellington are located just beyond this shield, which is the first one headed southbound. Colorado 1 used to be U.S. 87, back when U.S. 87 used to merge with U.S. 287 for its trek south along the Front Range into Denver. Now, U.S. 87 is secretly routed along Interstate 25 for most of its route through Colorado. Photo taken 02/02/02.
This close-up of the Colorado 1 shield shows the detail of the Colorado state flag, which forms the red, yellow, and blue top of the shield. This results in a colorful shield, but the numerals only use the bottom two-thirds of the shield. Photo taken 02/02/02.

Colorado 13

Colorado 13 South
Colorado 13 is a major north-south corridor extending from Interstate 70 in Rifle north to the Colorado-Wyoming State Line near Baggs, Wyoming, where it transitions directly onto Wyoming 789. Prior to 1984, Colorado 13 was cosigned in its entirety with Colorado 789, the Mexico-Canada Highway. Originally, Colorado 13 ended at U.S. 6, not Interstate 70. However, Colorado 13 was extended south from U.S. 6 in Rifle to Interstate 70 around 1977 (per Colorado Highways: Colorado 13 (Matt Salek). A traffic signal governs the connection from southbound Colorado 13 to westbound Interstate 70. Photo taken 10/18/04.
Interstate 70 extends west to Grand Junction and east to Denver. The freeway travels through some of the most scenic territory to be found along the Interstate Highway System. Photo taken 10/18/04.
Scenes Pertaining to Colorado 13
These shields for Colorado 13 and Interstate 70 are found at the exit from the rest area located south of Rifle along the south banks of the Colorado River. Photo taken 10/18/04.

Colorado 141

Colorado 141 North
Colorado 141 is a fairly long state route, originating at U.S. 491 (former U.S. 666) near Dove Creek and continuing north to end at Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 6 northeast of Grand Junction, in Clifton. Between U.S. 50 and Business Loop I-70/U.S. 6, Colorado 141 serves as an eastern bypass of Grand Junction. Here, northbound Colorado 141 approaches its northern terminus at Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 6. Photo taken 10/18/04.

A set of junction Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 6 shields is posted along northbound Colorado 141 as the highway crosses over a railroad viaduct. Photo taken 10/18/04.
Northbound Colorado 141 ends at this traffic signal junction with Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 6 in Clifton. Use eastbound Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 6 to connect with Interstate 70 and Palisade. To the west, Business Loop I-70 serves greater Grand Junction. Photos taken 10/18/04.

Colorado 340

Colorado 340 West
Colorado 340 begins at its junction with Business Loop I-70 and U.S. 50 in Grand Junction at this intersection. Here, westbound Colorado 340 travels about a block south over North Spruce Street, then turns west via West Grand Avenue. Colorado 340 then travels west via Broadway Road past the entrance to Colorado National Monument, then turns north to end at its junction with U.S. 6-50 in Fruita. Photo taken 10/18/04.

Larimer County Route 82/Buckeye Road

Larimer County Route 82 East
Eastbound Larimer County Route 82 approaching Junction Interstate 25 at the Buckeye exit. Photo taken 02/02/02.
Larimer County Route 82 West
Westbound Larimer County Route 83 shield just after the Interstate 25 Buckeye interchange. Larimer County, like most counties in Colorado, utilizes the pentagon shield for its county route signs. Buckeye is located seven miles west of this point. Photo taken 02/02/02.
