Rabbit Ears Pass<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near: Kremmling | Difficulty: Easy-Moderate | Season: Seasonally<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Located between Kremmling, Colorado and Steamboat Springs, Colorado off of Highway 40, Rabbit Ears Pass is a beautiful road that offers plenty of ATV and OHV recreation. Known for its “false summit,” Rabbit Ears Pass climbs to about 10,000 feet in elevation, and stays at that elevation for several miles before descending back into a valley. The pass is open year-round, despite being known as one of the snowiest roads in Colorado. Check weather and road conditions<\/a> before you venture out to the pass for your recreational trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although there are plenty of 4×4 trails in the area (many of which lead to the base of Rabbit Ears Peak to the east), there’s a gorgeous high-clearance, 4-mile-long road that stretches from Dumont Lake to the Rabbit Ears, the summit rock formation from which the pass gets its name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take in gorgeous views of the Continental Divide<\/a>, Rabbit Ears Peak, rivers, meadows, and more while you explore this realatively relaxed ATV\/OHV trail system. In addition to off-roading, visitors can bike, camp, fish, and hike in the summertime and snowmobile, cross-country ski and snowshoe in the winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gore Pass<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near: Kremmling | Difficulty: Easy-Moderate | Season: Summer-Fall<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Located just west of the town of Kremmling at over 9,500 feet in elevation, Gore Pass is a seasonal road that offers various easy to moderate ATV\/OHV off-roading trails. Gore Pass offers more than 50 miles of trails to explore recreationally, including activities like hiking, mountain biking, and more. There are four maintained trails, specifically kept up for ATVs and motorcycles in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gore Pass is a great area for Grand County scenic views; you won’t be able to miss the beautiful mountain peaks or all of the large, open meadow spaces. Wildlife is also plentiful in the area, so keep your eyes peeled! Plan an overnight trip to explore the whole area. There are several local Kremmling campgrounds<\/a> so you can keep your adventure going for several days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Creek<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near: Lawson | Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult | Season: Spring-Fall<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Located near the I-70, HWY 40 intersection, Spring Creek is an increasingly difficult ATV\/OHV trail with a variety of challenges, difficulty levels and lenghts. Since the trail is so close to Denver, it sees a lot of heavy use, especially on the weekends, and this usage exposes more boulders and rocks each season. On this road, expect steep climbs, narrow shelf roads, and boulder fields. The well-known boulder field, the “Rock Garden,” is also becoming increasingly challenging due to heavy use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Creek Trail is part of more than 100 miles of off-roading routes in Summit and Grand counties. The trail is surrounded by a lot of private land, so make sure to be respectful and stay on the main road and on public land. While climbing this road, take in breathtaking views of the I-70 corridor and Georgetown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This road is difficult with challenging driving conditions. Please do not attempt with a regular AWD SUV. This road requires a well-equipped, modified vehicle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rollins Pass West<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near: Winter Park | Difficulty: Easy | Season: Spring-Fall<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Peaking at 11,660 feet in elevation, Rollins Pass<\/a> offers two separate areas for ATV exploration: an east and a west trail. The two trails are only connected by a hiking trail, so you cannot easily explore both on your ATV\/OHV. The Rollins Pass West Trail is easily accessible from Winter Park. The trail is an easy, exploratory drive through a historic railroad route. Along your 28-mile drive, discover pieces left behind in history like old tunnels, watertowers, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road is closed during winter, and the best times to traverse the area is during the summertime and the fall, when there is no snow on the ground. The start of the ATV\/OHV trail can be found at the historic Moffat Tunnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idleglen OHV Recreation Area<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Near: Grand Lake | Difficulty: Easy-Expert | Season: Summer-Fall<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Offering over 130 miles of trails, The Idleglen OHV Recreation Area is a large off-roading space that encompases Stillwater Pass<\/a>, and it’s also known as the Grand Lake Trail System. In the wintertime, Grand Lake is an immensely popular snowy playground, known as the “Snowmobile Capital of Colorado.” However, the summertime offers many underrated and less-crowded ATV and OHV trails for plenty of off-roading fun during the short summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ATV\/OHV trails in the area are well-marked for visitors. However, once you traverse the paths that go into the forest, it is easy to get lost. We recommend you always ride with a friend, and beginners should stay near the main road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offering a wide variety of easy trails and difficult challenges throughout the area, Idleglen OHV Recreation Area boasts some of the most beautiful Grand Lake area views, and the trails let you get up close and personal with wildlife that comes into the area from the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. Since motorized vehicles are not allowed in the park, this is about as close as you can get to riding in Rocky Mountain National Park!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
