Space to Create Grand Lake to Launch New Makerspace and Live\/Work Housing Development<\/strong>Space to Create Grand Lake Breaks Ground September 13, 2025, at 3 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Lake, CO \u2014<\/strong> A transformative new development is coming to downtown Grand Lake, and it promises to change the landscape of Colorado\u2019s creative economy. The Space to Create Grand Lake<\/em> project will include nine new workforce rental units with attached storefronts for creative entrepreneurs and an adjacent 3,000-square-foot Makerspace dedicated to year-round arts programming, education, and community collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set to become the permanent home of the Grand Lake Creative District<\/a> (GLCD), the Makerspace will offer hands-on classes in woodworking, leatherworking, metalwork, fiber arts, and other traditional crafts. Programs will be offered in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Folk School, Rocky Mountain Wooden Boat School, and the Cowboy Trades Association.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than a building, this is a bold step toward intergenerational learning, creative workforce development, and rural revitalization. It also directly addresses the region\u2019s long-standing need for year-round housing, commercial space, and a dedicated creative center for GLCD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs we break ground on Space to Create Grand Lake, we\u2019re laying the foundation for a thriving hub where artists, makers, and dreamers can shape the future of our town,\u201d said Steve Kudron, Town Manager of Grand Lake. \u201cThis project represents the spirit of collaboration and innovation that defines our community, and I\u2019m proud to see Grand Lake embracing its role as a leader in Colorado\u2019s creative economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Lake will be the third official Space to Create<\/em> site in Colorado, part of a statewide initiative to provide affordable creative spaces in rural communities. The groundbreaking is scheduled for September 13, 2025 at 3 p.m. at the site on the corner of Park Avenue and Hancock Street. <\/strong>Afterward, attendees are encouraged to attend the Marquee Celebration at the Town Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizers are currently seeking founding supporters<\/strong> to help bring this project vision to life. Donors will have the opportunity to be permanently recognized as part of the project\u2019s legacy. Project funders as of August 2025 include: Colorado Creative Industries, Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), The Boettcher Foundation, Gates Family Foundation, Freeport-McMoRan Foundation, Rocky Mountain Wooden Boat School, Town of Grand Lake, Grand Lake Creative District and generous private donors who believe in the power of creativity to shape the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
