Las Vegas Beltway - Outer Loop

Interstate 215/Las Vegas Beltway Highway Guides

Eastbound Clark County Route 215 (Outer Loop)
The Las Vegas Beltway begins on this overpass that crosses Interstate 15. Designated as Clark County Route 215 between here and the southern Interstate 15 interchange, much of the freeway is incomplete. Several sections, such as this one, are built with only two lanes. Over the course of the next 15 years, the beltway will be converted to a freeway. Photo taken 04/02/06.
The initial beltway facility was completed and opened to traffic in 2003. Plans call for the entire route to be upgraded to freeway standards by 2013. Photo taken 04/02/06.

On this initial stretch of Clark County Route 215, much of the route is built on temporary roads (usually made of asphalt rather than concrete). Permanent sections of route are generally concrete, and these sections may be found in between planned interchanges. For now, most of the proposed interchanges are temporarily intersections until the freeway is constructed in between the two frontage roads. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Several sections of the county route beltway are divided highway with the extra-wide median serving as eventual freeway lanes. Photo taken 04/02/06.
A merge ahead sign is posted for incoming traffic prior to the first traffic signal on the outer loop of the beltway. Photo taken 04/02/06.
A stop ahead overhead sign is posted in advance of most of the traffic signals found along the beltway. Photo taken 04/02/06.

At the Range Road intersection, a traffic signal governs all movements. A freeway-entrance style Clark County 215 shield is posted ahead. Photo taken 04/02/06.
The next two exits along Clark County Route 215/Bruce Woodbury Beltway are with Lamb Boulevard (1.5 miles) and Pecos Road (2.5 miles). Photo taken 04/02/06.

Undeveloped land and open spaces are very common at the northern end of the beltway. Photo taken 04/02/06.
In the distance, Mt. Charleston (elevation 11,918 feet above sea level) comes into view as part of the Spring Mountains. During this spring, the mountains were awash in snow. Photo taken 04/02/06.
A stop ahead sign is posted for the intersection with Lamb Boulevard. Photo taken 04/02/06.
This section of Lamb Boulevard was disconnected from the portion of Lamb Boulevard south of Interstate 15 at the time this picture was taken, but eventual development may result in the connection of the two segments. Photo taken 04/02/06.

Stub sections of freeway can be seen as the permanent, concrete lanes divert onto an asphalt future offramp. Since the overpasses and approach roadways have not been built, traffic is diverted to traffic signals on top of the ramps. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Nearing the top of the ramp is another stop ahead sign. Photo taken 04/02/06.
