Las Vegas Beltway - Inner Loop

Interstate 215/Las Vegas Beltway Highway Guides

Nevada 564/Lake Mead Parkway east
Westbound Nevada 564/Lake Mead Parkway approaches Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 near the Fiesta resort in Henderson. The city of Henderson has a population of 175,381 as of the 2000 Census. That population total makes Henderson the second largest city in the state, larger than Reno but smaller than Las Vegas. Henderson was incorporated on April 16, 1953, and consists of 79.7 square miles. Photo taken 04/02/06.
A set of Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 trailblazer shields are posted prior to the interchange between Interstate 515 and Interstate 215. There is no END shield for Nevada 564, but the state route shifts directly onto the freeway at this point. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Interstate 215 west (Inner Loop)
The first pull-through signage for Interstate 215 west is posted as the right two lanes depart for Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 north to downtown Las Vegas. The next exit will connect Interstate 215 west with Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 south to Boulder City. Photo taken 04/02/06.
This freeway entrance shield assembly for Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 north is posted at the offramp from Interstate 215/Nevada 564. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Westbound Interstate 215 reaches Exit 1B, Junction Interstate 515 and U.S. 93-95 south to Boulder City. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Another freeway entrance shield assembly is posted, this time for Interstate 515 south to Boulder City. There is no freeway entrance shield assembly for Interstate 215 west from Nevada 564/Lake Mead Parkway west. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Leaving the Interstate 215-515 interchange, the first exit along Interstate 215/Bruce Woodbury Beltway is Exit 2, Gibson Road. Photo taken 04/02/06.
This mileage sign provides the distance to the first three exits along Interstate 215/Bruce Woodbury Beltway: Exit 2, Gibson Road; Exit 3, Stephanie Street; and Exit 4, Valle Verde Street. Photo taken 04/02/06.

View of the Exit 3 overhead for Stephanie Street as seen from the westbound mainline. Stephanie Street intersects Warm Springs Road 1.8 miles to the north and Horizon Ridge Parkway 0.6 miles to the south. Photo taken 02/16/04.
Mileage sign along westbound for the next three exits: Exit 4, Valle Verde Street; Exit 5, Green Valley Parkway; and Exit 6, Junction Nevada 146 west/St. Rose Parkway/Pecos Road. Interstate 215 immediately goes below grade after passing its first exit, and it retains that configuration (with soundwalls to buffer the noise) for most of its journey west to Interstate 15. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Arroyo Grande Boulevard passes over Interstate 215 westbound ahead of the Exit 4 single point urban interchange (SPUI) with Valle Verde Drive. Valle Verde Drive meanders through suburban areas of Henderson between Horizon Ridge Parkway and Sunset Road. Photo taken 04/02/06.
In 2004, Interstate 215 and Nevada 146 remained cosigned in practice along westbound (such as this shield assembly located after the Valle Verde exit), but Nevada 146 was retracted from sharing pavement with Interstate 215 in 2002-2003. Photo taken 10/19/04.
Mileage sign along westbound for the next three exits: Exit 5, Green Valley Parkway; Exit 6, Junction Nevada 146/Saint Rose Parkway/Pecos Road; and Exit 7, Eastern Avenue. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Westbound Interstate 215 reaches Exit 5, Green Valley Parkway. Green Valley Parkway passes through more of Henderson, connecting to the residential area around Legacy Golf Club, Wildhorse Golf Club, Liberty Pointe Aquatic Center and Pavilion, and Desert Willow Golf Course. A second SPUI facilitates the movements between Interstate 215 and Green Valley Parkway. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Interstate 215 westbound on the 0.25-mile approach to junction Nevada 146 (St. Rose Parkway). Nevada 146 heads southwest via St. Rose Parkway 6.6 miles to junction Interstate 15 (Exit 27). Pecos Road meanwhile travels north from Henderson into eastern reaches of Las Vegas. The guide sign on the right was modified with "Saint Rose Parkway" instead of Lake Mead Drive. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Westbound Interstate 215 at Exit 6 diamond interchange with Nevada 146 (St. Rose Parkway) west and Pecos Road north. Interstate 215 departs Henderson and enters the unincorporated area of Clark County. Despite its name, Interstate 215/Las Vegas Beltway never enters the city of Las Vegas. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Exit 6 descends from Interstate 215 west to Nevada 146 (St. Rose Parkway) south and Pecos Road north. Pecos Road intersects Sunset Road in 3.3 miles, Tropicana Avenue in 5.2 miles, and Flamingo Road in 6.3 miles. Photo taken 04/02/06.
The next exit along westbound is Exit 7, Eastern Avenue, which marks the farthest western extent of Henderson (north of Interstate 215). Interstate 215 curves northwest between Eastern Avenue and Warm Springs Road (Exit 9). Photo taken 02/16/04.
Exit 6 leaves Interstate 215 westbound for Eastern Avenue. Eastern Avenue travels south 1.3 miles to junction Nevada 146 (St. Rose Parkway) and 4.3 miles to Anthem Parkway in southwest Henderson. Sunset Park lies 2.2 miles to the north along Eastern Avenue at Warm Springs Road. Photo taken 02/16/04.
This Interstate 215 west reassurance shield is posted after the Eastern Avenue interchange. In the movie Lethal Weapon 4, this freeway was used as the set for the car-chase scene that was supposed to be in the greater Los Angeles area per the plotline. Some tell tale differences on this road immediately indicate that this could not be a standard Southern California freeway, including the lack of botts dots and the desert terrain visible over the sound walls. As a result of the sound walls and limited right of way, this westbound Interstate 215 reassurance marker was placed on a sign bridge hanging off the sound wall. Photos taken 04/02/06 and 10/19/04.
Mileage sign along westbound for the next three exits: Exit 8, Eastern Avenue; Exit 9, Warm Springs Road; and Exit 10, Junction Nevada 171/McCarran Airport Spur. The skyline of the Las Vegas Strip in unincorporated Paradise comes into view in the horizon. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Interstate 215 westbound at the Wigwam Avenue over crossing just south of the Exit 8 SPUI. Intersecting the freeway ahead is Windmill Lane, an east-west surface arterial between Las Vegas Boulevard (Nevada 604) and Green Valley Parkway. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Drivers merging onto Interstate 215 northbound from Windmill Lane form the exit-only lane for Exit 8 (Warm Springs Road). Warm Springs Road travels the length of the Las Vegas metropolitan area between Fort Apache Road and Nevada 582 (Boulder Highway). Photo taken 04/02/06.
Mileage sign along westbound Interstate 215 for the next three exits: Exit 10, Junction Nevada 171/McCarran Airport Spur; Exit 11, Junction Nevada 604/Las Vegas Boulevard; and Exit 12, Junction Interstate 15. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Warm Springs Road and Paradise Road intersect next to the five-ramp partial-cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 215 (Exit 9). Paradise Road travels 2.1 miles between Sunset Road and Windmill Lane. Warm Springs Road heads west 1.8 miles to Nevada 604 (Las Vegas Boulevard) and 1.2 miles east to Eastern Avenue. Photo taken 04/02/06.
A neutered Interstate 215 shield lies ahead of the Warm Springs Road east loop ramp onto westbound. The Warm Springs Road westbound on-ramp splits between ramps to the Las Vegas Beltway west and Airport Connector (Nevada 171) north. Photo taken 04/02/06.
The next exit along westbound is Exit 10, Junction Nevada 171 (Airport Connector) north to McCarran International Airport via a tunnel under the runway and tarmac system. The Airport Connector Freeway provides ramps to Russell Road, Swenson Street north to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV), and Paradise Road. Photo taken 10/19/04.
Westbound Interstate 215 reaches Exit 10, Junction Nevada 171/McCarran International Airport Connector. Nevada 171 leads to a tunnel that goes under the airport to connect with parking and terminal access on the north side. The first exit on Northbound Nevada 171 is Sunset Road, hence why it is listed on this exit sign. Note how Nevada 171 is unsigned at this exit. Photo taken 04/02/06.
Mileage sign for the final two exits of Interstate 215 westbound: Exit 11, Junction Nevada 604/Las Vegas Boulevard and Exit 12, Junction Interstate 15. The Spring Mountains lie along the western horizon. Photo taken 02/16/04.

With the infusion of airport traffic, Interstate 215 between Exits 8 and 10 takes on the role as the primary route from the airport to the Las Vegas Strip and downtown, via Interstate 15 northbound. Photo taken 10/19/04.
Westbound Interstate 215 LOOP shield prior to the Las Vegas Boulevard exit. There are not many of these left on the mainline, and a few may be found on southbound Nevada 171 (Airport Tunnel Connector). Texas places shields with the word LOOP in them for Interstate 610 around Houston as well. Photo taken 10/19/04.
Westbound Interstate 215 at Exit 11, Junction Nevada 604/Las Vegas Boulevard, which leads north toward the Strip and south toward a junction with Nevada 160, Blue Diamond Road. Gilespie Street passes over Interstate 215 in this scene. Photo taken 02/16/04.
Westbound Interstate 215 approaching Junction Interstate 15 (Exit 12). Interstate 15 leads north to the Strip, Downtown, and Salt Lake City; the freeway heads south to Baker, Barstow and Southern California. Photo taken 10/19/04.
Traffic to Interstate 15 (Exit 12A) northbound departs Interstate 215 west at the Las Vegas Boulevard (Nevada 604) overpass. The freeway provides multiple connections to the adjacent Las Vegas Strip on the drive between Interstates 215 (Exit 34) and 515 (Exit 42). Photo taken 10/19/04.
Passing under the westbound flyover to Clark County 215 west from Interstate 15 north. The right-hand lane departs ahead for the southbound loop ramp onto Interstate 15 south. Interstate 15 continues another seven miles to junction Nevada 146 before departing the Las Vegas metro area en route to Jean and Primm. Photo taken 02/16/04.
Interstate 215 ends and Clark County 215 begins at the west edge of the Fishbowl interchange. Exit 12B loops onto Interstate 15 southbound. Interstate 15 ventures 146 miles southwest to Barstow, California and 206 miles to the split with Interstate 215 north of San Bernardino. Photo taken 02/16/04.
Clark County 215 west continues as a freeway one mile to Decatur Boulevard (Exit 13). Completion of the Las Vegas Beltway between Decatur Boulevard and Charleston Boulevard (Nevada 159) is scheduled for 2006. Pictured here is the Exit 12B sign bridge pictured above but with a Decatur Boulevard pull-through panel in place of "Begin Clark County 215". Photo taken 11/10/00.
Interstate 215 West (Inner Loop) - Prior to Completion of Interstate 515 Interchange
Nevada 564 (Lake Mead Drive) transitions into Interstate 215 at junction Interstate 515 & U.S. 93-95. At present a diamond interchange composes the junction between the two highways. However a massive high-speed stack interchange is under construction to provide a freeway to freeway connection between Interstates 215 and 515. Photo taken 10/19/04.
The first mile of westbound Interstate 215 after the Interstate 515 diamond interchange is a surface expressway, with a traffic signal at the base of the ramps from Interstate 515 and again at Gibson Street. The pillars are for the future transition ramps between Interstate 215 and Interstate 515. Photo taken 10/19/04.
A railroad crossing will be eliminated with the upgrading of Nevada 146 (Lake Mead Drive) to Interstate 215. Completion of the Lake Mead Drive freeway upgrade is scheduled for 2006. See the NDOT Beltway Interchange Web site for details of the Interstate 215 & 515 project. Photo taken 02/16/04.
While Interstate 215 remains under construction, this expressway section is signed as Nevada 146 west to Interstate 215. This stretch is only signed as Nevada 146 for the interim facility; it will be changed to Interstate 215 upon completion of the freeway. However, it is unclear why this section of highway was not renumbered as Nevada 564, similar to Lake Mead Drive east of Interstate 515. Meanwhile, note the construction of a future temporary alignment that will soon be in use once the interchange ramp construction begins in earnest. Photo taken 02/16/04.
Westbound Nevada 146/Temporary Interstate 215 at the Gibson Street traffic signal. The freeway begins after this signal. Gibson Street travels north from Horizon Ridge Parkway to Warm Springs Road and Sunset Road through Henderson. Photos taken 02/16/04 & 10/19/04.

Begin Westbound Interstate 215 along what used to be Nevada 146 and is now signed as Nevada 564. As of February 2004, the Interstate 215 and Nevada 146 shields are missing, even though Nevada 146 is still signed on the previous shield assembly and a couple of other shield assemblies west of here along the freeway portion of Interstate 215. For now, Nevada 146 technically does not begin until reaching Exit 4. First photo taken 11/10/00; second photo taken 02/16/04.
After Interstate 215 begins, the freeway reaches its first exit along westbound: Exit 1, Stephanie Street. Stephanie Street leads north-south between Horizon Ridge Parkway and Russell Road in Henderson. Photo taken 02/16/04.

Continue west on Clark County 215.
