U.S. 60 was formerly the through route to Phoenix. While it can still be used that way, it has been superceded by the newer Interstate 10, routed along what was called the Brenda cut-off by original planners. Photo taken March 17, 2007.

The unusual frequency of rest areas along Interstate 10 between Blythe and Phoenix is due to the new alignment of the interstate. When constructed, there were no motorist services along this road, and even today, there are few services. Photo taken March 17, 2007.
