Eastbound Business Loop I-80 and U.S. 30
Eastbound Business Loop I-80 and Business U.S. 30 approaching Junction Wyoming 530 in Green River. All three routes are well-signed throughout the Green River business route, but the Wyoming standard of using "To Interstate 80" for the latter half of the loop is used here. This creates an awkward situation where the road is going to Interstate 80 and to Wyoming 530, when it really should still say "Business Loop I-80." The reason why the signage is like this is because Wyoming 530 and Business Loop I-80 intersect on the east end of downtown. The U.S. 30 shield is missing a business route banner. Mainline U.S. 30 is routed on Interstate 80 at this point. This business loop is known locally as Flaming Gorge Way, and it is constructed of concrete for its entire length. Its low speed limit has trapped many people who do not throttle down on their way off Interstate 80. Photo taken 09/07/05.
The city of Green River was incorporated in 1868 as part of Dakota Territory and again in 1891 as part of the new state of Wyoming. Green River is home to 11,808 people as of the 2000 Census. The city is a hub for the trona mining industry; the trona mines are located west of Green River. In addition, the railroad, tourism to the Flaming Gorge, and Interstate traffic augment the economy of this vibrant region. There are no coal mines near Green River; those are primary located near Rock Springs. Green River is also the seat of Sweetwater County, so its courthouse is located downtown. The annual Flaming Gorge Days are a festival of fun during June. Photo taken 09/07/05.

Downtown Green River is fairly small, although it is anchored by the county court house and ancillary government buildings for Sweetwater County. The library is located north of the business route. Photo taken 09/07/05.

Eastbound Business Loop I-80 and U.S. 30 reaches the intersection with Wyoming 530, Uinta Drive. Turn left (north) onto southbound Wyoming 530; the state highway takes an immediate switchback in order to cross the railroad via a tall viaduct. To the east, the business loop transitions back onto Interstate 80, which is only a half-mile east of here. Photo taken 09/07/05.
